''The Knickerbocker News'' (popularly, ''The Knick'') of Albany, New York was a daily newspaper from Sept. 4, 1843 (when it was the ''Albany Knickerbocker'') until April 16, 1988. The first publisher was Hugh Hastings, an Irish immigrant, who gave the paper its name in commemoration of the area's Dutch heritage.〔 he sold to the Gannett Company in 1928.〔 The evening-published newspaper's final editor was Harry M. Rosenfeld, also then editor of the morning ''Times Union.'' ''The Knickerbockers resources were folded into the ''Times Union'', though some employees were laid off.
